L.A. ride-by leaves 4 dead and 4 wounded

In this bad economy gang bangers now have to use public transportation for drive-bys.
LOS ANGELES, California (CNN) — A gunman fired into a crowd of people at a Los Angeles bus stop Wednesday, wounding eight, including children, authorities said.
The incident took place about 3:15 p.m. at the intersection of Central and Vernon avenues, in an area of the city where police are concerned about gang violence, Lt. Ruben de la Torre of the Los Angeles Police Department said.
The shooting happened near a middle school, but not on school grounds.
The school was placed on lockdown after the incident, but parents later were allowed to pick up their children.
The shooting victims range in age from 10 to 68, police said.
Two — a 49-year-old woman and a 12-year-old boy — were in critical condition. Four of the victims were 14 or younger.
Police do not know the motive behind the shooting, but believe the gunman was targeting one of the victims, de la Torre said.
Authorities were searching for the gunman, described as a black male aged 20 to 25, wearing a white T-shirt and blue jeans. MORE>>>

The CNN article doesn’t say anything about whether the shooter was on the bus or not so I think this article has a nice ‘onion’ feel to it if it was meant to be funny. Was it meant to be funny? Was the guy really doing a ‘ride-by’? do ‘ride-by’s’ exist?
