The director of the local chapter of the Keystone State Skinheads says he’s willing to speak at a diversity summit proposed by the Wilkes-Barre Chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.

Ron Felton, president of the local NAACP, said he wouldn’t make the decision regarding the Skinheads’ participation, and is leaving it up to the Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission.

Felton has set a tentative date of June 29 for the meeting which he said was motivated by several events: the recent vandalism at Congregation Ohav Zedek synagogue and the placement of banners and fliers throughout the Wyoming Valley. The banners, which carry messages such as “Preserve Our Heritage,” list the Skinheads Web site. Read more »

The sheriff made news when he set up an illegal immigration hotline. Now he’s set up another one to help fund his efforts to fight it.

Earlier this week, the governor cut money more than $1 million from the sheriff’s budget to fund a statewide task force to hunt fugitives.

Arpaio said residents and people from out of state called to donate their own money to fund his fight against illegal immigration. “We’re receiving emails and calls from people that just were angry and just wanted to know how they can help.”

He said donations can be made out to MCSO Donation Fund and must be earmarked for illegal immigration. Read more »

When New York schools published their latest test results for reading and math, Cynthia Baptiste had 218 reasons to celebrate. After working hard throughout the year, the 13-year-old Brooklyn student has earned $218.00 from a special incentive programme that is helping transform the anguished debate about racial difference in America.

Baptiste’s class at the predominantly black family academy in Brooklyn is part of an intriguing project aimed at encouraging African-American and other disadvantaged students to try harder at school.

Its broader goal is to narrow the notorious gap between black and white education in America, where the average 17-year-old black student has the academic skills of a 14-year-old White pupil. READ MORE>>>>

SIXTY EIGHT PER-CENT of Italians, fueled by often inflammatory attacks by the new right wing government, want to see all of the country’s 150,000 Gypsies, many of them Italian citizens, expelled, according to an opinion poll. The survey, published as mobs in Naples burned down Gypsy camps this week, revealed that the majority also wanted all Gypsy camps in Italy to be demolished.

About 70,000 Gypsies in Italy hold Italian passports, including about 30,000 descended from the 15th-century Gypsy settlers in the country. The remainder have arrived since, many fleeing the Balkans during the 1990s. STORY>>>>

JACKSONVILLE, FL — In with other signs on the side of the road for used cars and yard sales, morning commuters on the Southside this week also saw a much different message.

James Payne saw a sign that said “Bourbon St. Whites Only” at an intersection along St. Johns Bluff Road and was shocked by the language.

As Israel enters its 61st year, Israelis may look back with pride. Yet, the realists among them must also look forward with foreboding.

Israel is a modern democracy with the highest standard of living in the Middle East. In the high-tech industries of the future, she is in the first rank. From a nation of fewer than a million in 1948, Israel’s population has grown to 7 million. In seven wars — the 1948 War of Independence, the Sinai invasion of 1956, the Six-Day War of 1967, the Yom Kippur War of 1973, and the Lebanon wars of 1982 and 2006 — Israel has prevailed, though some of these wars were, as Wellington said of Waterloo, “a damn near-run thing.”

Israel has revived Hebrew, created a new currency, immersed her children in the history, ancient and modern, of her people, and established a homeland for Jews from all over the world, millions of whom have migrated there to settle. Eight students at Mid-Carolina Middle School have been suspended for the rest of the school year, after district officials say they had sex while on a school sponsored field trip.

District officials say it happened in April, when the students, all aged 13 to 14 years old, snuck out of their hotel rooms the last night of the annual eighth grade trip to Washington, D.C. and into other students’ rooms to have sex.

May 17 2008 - Cape Town. South Africa officially has 47-million citizens plus some 5-million economic refugees and more streaming in from the rest of Africa every day… Last week the SA Development Bank announced that the country now has some 8-million HIV+ people.

Yet the country only has 7.7-million officially-registered permanent taxpayers - claims labour minister Membathisi Mdladlana: who recently said that while 13-m have jobs;  5.8-million are low-paid part-time workers who are not registered to pay unemployment insurance.

In other words, only 7.7 million people are paying permanent wage-related income-taxes to the central government to support the country’s entire infrastructure for 52-million people — moreover this is also a population which for the most part now is becoming seriously endangered by the deadly AIDS+TB epidemics, the soaring crime epidemic and the rapidly-growing famine in SA: It’s also interesting to note the report from UN and SA aid-agencies who say that some 23-m indigenous South Africans (of all races) already have to survive below the breadline of $1 a day.   MORE>>>

The poll worker who called a polling place “Obama’s house” in front of a WTVW-FOX7 crew apologized Friday — then accused the local TV station of altering its footage to incriminate her.

Kim Minor also told the Vanderburgh County Election Board that her “tight pants” were partly to blame for the remarks broadcast by WTVW-FOX7 and posted on YouTube. Read more »

TAMPA — For killing a man with a samurai sword, Willie Tarpley Jr. received a 40-year prison sentence Friday.
Tarpley, 47, claims he wanted only to protect his young daughters from their mother’s new sex offender boyfriend and never meant to kill on May 12, 2007.
But a jury convicted him of second-degree murder in April. At Tarpley’s sentencing Friday, Assistant State Attorney Jennifer Gabbard noted the irony of his defense: Tarpley, too, is a registered sex offender. He and his estranged wife, Jacqueline, served prison time for the October 1987 kidnapping and sexual torture of a 21-year-old woman, one of the most horrific sex crimes in the county’s history, Gabbard said.
