July 11th, 2008 under Rob Chapman, Top Stories. [ Comments: 5 ]

Atlanta — Two of Martin Luther King Jr.’s children have filed a lawsuit against a third, embroiling the family in a legal dispute over the civil rights icon’s estate.

Bernice King and Martin Luther King III filed a lawsuit Thursday in county court to force Dexter King to open the books of their father’s estate.

The lawsuit claims that Dexter King, the estate’s administrator, is refusing to provide his two siblings with documents concerning the estate’s operations. That includes financial records, contracts, financial affairs and other documents, the lawsuit said.

“Martin and Bernice would like to know what’s going on in the estate of Martin Luther King Jr.,” said Harmon W. Caldwell, an attorney representing them. “It’s that simple.” Read more »

141414141414.jpgA Canadian woman who describes herself as a White Nationalist lost custody of her children after sending her daughter to school twice with a Swastika drawn on her arm, the CBC reported. The Winnipeg mother told the CBC she regrets redrawing the Nazi symbol after a teacher scrubbed it off. She is fighting the child welfare system to regain custody of her daughter, 7, and son, 2, who were removed from her home Four months ago. “It was one of the stupidest things I’ve done in my life but it’s no reason to take my kids,” the unidentified woman told CBC News. She is currently allowed to see her kids for two hours a week. Child and Family Services workers were alerted after the second swastika incident at school, the CBC reported. When they arrived at the family home they found neo-Nazi symbols and flags, and proceeded to remove the kids.

The case has sparked a debate over whether the police and child welfare authorities can take children away because of their parents beliefs. SOURCE>>>>

Jews object to German citizenship test-no mention of “holocaust”
July 11th, 2008 under Deutsche News, Immigration, Israel & Jewish Issues, Nathaniel Bacon. [ Comments: 15 ]

wedonotwantyou14.jpgThe citizenship test to be introduced for would-be Germans has met with broad resistance. It’s too hard, too ideologically biased, historically unsound and littered with errors, say its detractors.

The Central Council of Jews in Germany has voiced concern about the test’s handling of the country’s Nazi past, pointing out that the word “Holocaust” is conspicuous in its absence. This reflects a “strange understanding of history,” said secretary general Stephan Kramer. Moreover, he observed, Judaism is absent from the list of multiple choice answers to a question about the main religions in Europe and Germany. MORE>>>>

Adolf Hitler gave Rochus Misch only a momentary glance when he was first introduced to the young man who was to become the Fuhrer’s head bodyguard. Misch, now 91 and the only living member of the group that was in Hitler’s bunker when the Fuhrer committed suicide, reveals his own impressions of the Nazi leader in his book “The last Witness” published earlier this month in Germany.

Today Misch still receives letters at his home in Berlin. Many people contact him with requests for an autograph or for details of his connection to Hitler. SOURCE>>>>

July 11th, 2008 under Crime, Immigration, Rob Chapman. [ Comments: 6 ]

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. (WSVN) — Police have arrested a man they are calling a serial rapist.

At a press conference Thursday afternoon, Miami Beach Police announced the capture of 29-year-old Arturo Soto and asked the public if anyone out there may have been victimized by this same man. So far they think he is responsible for at least two rapes and one attempted rape.

Police apprehended Soto Wednesday night after an attempted sexual battery. The chef at the Maya Tapas and Grill restaurant, near where the latest attack occurred, said graphic surveillance video outside the restaurant, which police have confiscated as evidence, looked like something out of a horror movie.

Police said Soto reportedly lured a woman into an alley at 14th Street and Collins Avenue where he punched her bloody and fled on foot after he became nervous. Read more »
