Jewish Rabbis Have No Sense of Humor

As a joke, a 14 year old Israeli girl and a 17 year old Israeli boy had a “marriage” in their school yard where he declared the girl his wife. They recited a Jewish ritual vow in front of witnesses and she accepted his ring. That, and what a spokeswoman for Israel’s Rabbinical Courts said was the consummation of their marriage, was enough to make them man and wife in the Jewish state. Although the state refused to recognize that it was merely a school yard joke, they did grant the couple a rabbinical divorce, making the 14 year old girl the youngest in Israel’s modern history to get divorced.
