WASHINGTON — A judge is expected to hear a report on the health of a white supremacist accused of killing a security guard at the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum.

Court records say a hearing is set for Monday in U.S. District Court on the status of 88-year-old James von Brunn (vahn BRUHN’). He is charged with first-degree murder in Wednesday’s fatal shooting of 39-year-old Stephen T. Johns, who was black.

Authorities say von Brunn was shot in the face when other museum guards returned fire. He remains hospitalized, and FBI officials have said he is likely to survive. The court must decide when von Brunn’s initial court appearance will be.

An FBI spokeswoman says the court has appointed a federal public defender to represent him.

If Von Brunn had “praised his friends and ignored his enemies” we’d be in better shape today.
