In Barack Obama’s Fantasyland, all things are possible. The economy has been rescued, millions of jobs created or saved, and countries that used to hate us now want to hold our hands and sing “Kumbaya”. Obama’s Gandalf-like wizardry has even managed to magically create eight new congressional districts in Iowa.
In reality, the economy remains in terrible shape, jobs are scarce, and our enemies still hate us. As for Iowa, there are still only five congressional districts, not the 13 listed by the White House. Recovery.gov, a website the Obama administration spent $18 million in taxpayer money to upgrade, claims to have “saved or created” 39 jobs in congressional districts in Iowa that do not exist. The cost of those non-existent jobs? $10.6 million.
Here’s a full breakdown of the phantom stimulus money in Iowa, according to Recovery.gov: Source>>>
IFPC can’t reel in “Sarahcuda”
Sarah Palin will not be coming to the Iowa Family Policy Center’s event on November 21st. The social conservative group tried to lure Palin to the event, and convinced a pro-Palin group to help raise money to pay for the costs. However, Palin’s book, “Going Rogue” will be released three days earlier and her tour to market the memoirs makes this Iowa stop impossible.
However, the IFPC released a statement saying Palin “has asked if she could speak at a future mutually agreeable date. She will not accept any fees for her appearance.” The Politico ran a hit piece on Palin claiming she was demanding a $100,000 speaking fee. She did not ask for any money. The IFPC was trying to raise the funds for building and event expenses, not a speaker’s fee. The Politico piece including quotes from several Iowa politics insiders who might not necessarily be impartial. Two of them worked on Mitt Romney’s campaign in 2008.
Pawlenty to speak at Iowa GOP event
One probable 2012 president candidate that is coming to Iowa is Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty. He visits the Hawkeye State next Saturday, November 7th, for the Iowa GOP’s “Leadership for Iowa” event at the State Fairgrounds in Des Moines. This is a great opportunity for Pawlenty to springboard his bid for the GOP nomination. He will have to be impressive to make an impact. This is still a Huckabee-loving state among conservatives.
