A teenager has undergone surgery after being beaten unconscious by a fellow student in an incident of school bullying.
The argument between Preston Hodge and a classmate reportedly broke out on Tuesday during lunch break in the playground when the boys were playing dodgeball.
A teacher broke up the fight at Longfellow Middle School in Enid, Oklahoma but it was unclear how long the beating had gone on for.

The student was battered unconscious and suffered broken bones, severe lacerations and possible internal injuries, according to KFOR-TV.
The 14-year-old had a plate inserted in his fractured cheek yesterday. He was said to be in a ‘fair’ condition by hospital staff.

Police and the school are not releasing the names of the students, but family friends have identified the boy injured as 14-year-old Preston Hodge and said the boy is scheduled to have surgery at 3 p.m. Wednesday. Jeff Rust, a friend of the family, has set up a fund to help the family with medical expenses. Rust also posted a picture of Preston on Facebook, which was sent to him from the family.
“I wanted people to see the effect of bullying in schools and having a daughter in junior high it really hit home,” said Rust.
The fund is set up at Alva State Bank and Trust located at 801 W. Broadway in Enid under the name “Preston Hodge.”
“Something has to be done to stop the cruelty of this,” said Rust. “Fighting does not solve any situation.”
The other student involved in the fight could face aggravated battery charges.more
The attack at Longfellow Middle School was ‘a hate/bias incident’ according to the campus police report.
According to school authorities, there had been pushing and shoving between the two students and an exchange of insults before the attack took place.
Although the child’s mother had yet to speak publicly, she posted a picture of her badly injured son on Facebook. According to News on 6, she commented: ‘This happened at Longfellow and have no idea where the teachers were at.’

I’ve been in some fights in school and seen dozens and the teachers are always too afraid to break them up. I doubt this teacher broke it up. This is why schools were much better before integration! It’s better to seperate for ALL people!!!!

Fighting is never the answer, unless you win. When I was a kid I got bullied, honestly i was kinda soft, but at some point it toughened me up. We are turning white kids into pansies by telling them to be anti violence. The real problem is white on white bullying.

Well, I feel bad for the kid, but clearly if it is being considered a hate/bias crime, it must be because he was homosexual, as we all know hate crime legislation does nothing to protect Whites. The attacker is a juvenile, so they cannot release his information, but I am sure if he is black they wouldn’t be saying anything about this. All these comments are ridiculous. We don’t need to segregate schools. We don’t need to call racial names. We don’t need to profile. I LIVE in the town where this happened. Both students are at fault. Preston is a white kid with a bit of an attitude. The other student, whose name I can’t recall, is Marshallese, and also is a bit of a hard-head. The Marshallese boy was talking badly about America, so Preston told him to go back to the Marshal Islands if he hates it here. Though the beating got way out of hand, and Preston shouldn’t have had to be rushed to the emergency room, both kids were at fault. THIS is what racism and discrimination do to people. They cause MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS to fight and end up charged with battery OR end up in the hospital. You people replying so negatively are only fueling the fire of racism and discrimination. Problems like Preston’s situation wouldn’t happen if we could all learn to get over our racial profiling and stop hating other people simply because of who they are. If you’re going to like or hate someone, like or hate them because of who they ARE, not because of WHAT they are.
