NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Police confiscated maps of the federal courthouse from members of a street gang.
Police said it was a sign that members of MS-13 might consider an ambush to spring fellow gang members from custody.
“MS-13 swept into Nashville like a pack of jackals and they left a group of bloody victims in their wake,” said Jim Cavanaugh, special agent with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives, in an interview last year. Read more »

HOUSTON — Houston police asked for help on Monday locating a 22-year-old man accused of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old pregnant girl, officials told KPRC Local 2.Hector Perez-Garcia has been charged with sexual assault of a juvenile.He is described as 5 feet 6 inches tall, 135 pounds, with brown eyes and black hair. He drives a black Mitsubishi Eclipse and was last seen near the 2200 block of Wirt Road.

Frederick County Commissioner Lennie Thompson has proposed that next year’s county school system funding be based on a good-faith effort by the school board to count the number of students with questionable immigration status.
He says the count would not identify a student by name.
Thompson says the idea is to gather information to determine how many students whose legal status in the country isn’t reasonably documented. Read more »

A drunken-driving suspect charged Thursday with second-degree murder after a 7-year-old boy was struck and killed had been wanted by police since December for failing to show up in court to answer a previous drunken-driving charge, according to prosecutors.
Hipolito Camora Hernandez, 30, of Parkertown Road in Four Oaks is now in the Johnston County jail on a host of charges related to the death of Marcus Lassiter, who was struck near Four Oaks on Sunday and died at Duke Hospital the next night. Read more »

A Westbury man who moonlighted as a children’s party clown was arrested on charges of possessing and promoting child pornography, Nassau police said Wednesday.
Alexander Zacarias, 40, of Sherman Street, was arraigned on nine counts of promoting sexual performance of a child and nine counts of possession of sexual performance of a child in First District Court in Hempstead Wednesday. He was held on bail of $400,000 bond or $200,000 cash, and is due back in court Friday.
Police said there was no evidence that Zacarias ever abused or photographed any children. Attempts to reach Zacarias’ family were unsuccessful Wednesday. He was represented by the Nassau Legal Aid Society, which could not be reached Wednesday. Read more »

PRESCOTT, Ariz. — A convicted rapist is accused of beating two women and holding them against their will when they each refused to have sex with him.
Prescott police said Kenny Gipson, 58, held a 39-year-old woman captive for two days last September after she refused his advances. Police said he also beat the woman with a cane.Earlier this month, Gipson took a 48-year-old woman to a Prescott motel and held her for two days against her will after she also refused to have sex with him, according to police. Four Oaks, N.C. — Police said an unlicensed driver was drunk and operating a stolen car when he struck and critically injured a 7-year-old boy in Johnston County on Saturday evening.
The driver, Pollo Hernandez Rodriquez, appeared before a judge Monday, and relatives said doctors at Duke University Hospital declared Marcus Lassiter, 7, brain dead.
Rodriquez faces charges of felony hit and run, driving while impaired, driving without a license, driving a stolen car and causing serious injury with a motor vehicle. Read more »

About two weeks after he was released from prison, Freddie Johnson was arrested on charges of illegally rubbing up against a woman on a crowded Manhattan subway train. It is a fairly common crime in New York. But this was no common criminal.
Johnson has been arrested a staggering 53 times—the majority for allegedly groping women on subway trains.
In his latest arrest, Johnson was being followed by plainclothes officers who recognized him from police photos. He was charged with persistent sexual abuse, and if convicted this time he could be sent away for life. Read more »

An off-duty police officer shot and killed a man who was allegedly breaking into a car in a northwest Houston parking lot armed with a screwdriver, KPRC Local 2 reported Friday.Houston police said the 24-year veteran officer was visiting a friend at an apartment complex on West Tidwell Road near Wheatley Street when he heard glass breaking at about 1:30 a.m.Investigators said Sgt. The 14-year-old boy whose actions led to the death of a Columbia graduate student was arraigned in Family Court yesterday. An NYPD detective told the judge that Sheldon (whose last name is withheld due to his age) admitted to repeatedly punching 24-year-old Minghui Yu in the head “a couple times.” But, according to Detective John Garvey, the boy also claimed “he attempted to grab Mr. Yu to keep him from going into traffic.”
Last Friday, Yu had been walking home and when he stood at the Broadway median between West 122nd and 123rd Streets, where Sheldon, accompanied by two friends, assaulted him. After a struggle, Yu ran into the street and was fatally struck by a vehicle. Surveillance footage showed the suspect in the area. Read more »

A 19-year-old Franklin man has been arrested on suspicion raping a 12-year-old girl who was visiting his home, police said.
Police said they believe Marbel Figueroa-Perez raped the girl in late February.
The girl was visiting Figueroa-Perez’s home with her cousin, who wanted to get cigarettes there, police said. When they arrived, the cousin went upstairs, leaving the girl with Figueroa-Perez and four other men in the living room, according to police. Read more »

Two teachers at a Baltimore, Maryland, high school say they were attacked by students, and one says such assaults are commonplace, according to CNN affiliate WBAL.

EAST POINT, Ga. — A veteran detective calls it one of the dumbest mistakes he’s ever seen. Now that mistake has put a suspected bank robber in jail.East Point police said they easily arrested a robbery suspect because he had a cab pick him up and take him to the bank. Officers said they simply returned to the address and arrested him there.

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — A 31-year-old man accused of taking an 11-year-old girl from Jacksonville to an abandoned home in St. Johns County and forcing himself on her locked in jail accused of several charges, including capital sexual battery.

A man who crashed a memorial service, groped the breast of the dead woman’s sister and displayed pornographic pictures to her mother is lucky to have been arrested by police before angry mourners injured him.
Police say Marlos Hernandez, 31, was taken into custody after they responded to reports of a fight outside an apartment building in Boulder, Colo., early Thursday morning.
According to witnesses, Hernandez, who lived in the apartment building, entered a memorial service in another unit being held by the mother of a woman who had recently died. The mother said, although she did not know Hernandez, she was not suspicious because so many strangers had come to show their respect. Read more »

Harris County sheriff’s deputies are searching for a man accused of kidnapping his ex-girlfriend and raping her and her friend, KPRC Local 2 reported Tuesday.
Investigators said Raffael Jones, 19, kidnapped his ex-girlfriend on March 15 from the Lone Star Car and Dog Wash on Atascocita Road near Page Forest in northeast Harris County while she washed her car.Detectives said Jones took her to his house, raped her and kept her locked in for 16 days. PORT CHESTER – A Texas man was arraigned today after police said he transported illegal immigrants from Texas, held five of them in a Port Chester apartment and threatened to cut off their fingers with pruning shears if they didn’t ante up more money.
John Ernest Guerrero Jr., 22, of Pearland, a 6-foot 3, 350-pound man, was arrested by seven officers after the captives escaped an attic apartment in which they were being held without food, police said. Police are seeking a second and possibly a third captor.
Two men from Brazil were found on Poningo Street Saturday afternoon, allegedly after escaping from the apartment in 123 Haseco Ave., a triplex Victorian-style building. They alleged they had been held there four or five days after being transported there by two men in a white Chevrolet after they crossed the Mexican border into Texas. Read more »

A woman who fired two shots at a Jacksonville police officer was fatally shot when that officer returned fire, Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office Chief Rick Graham said Tuesday afternoon.The incident began as a traffic stop near Ribualt Junior High School. However, Graham said the woman driving the vehicle, later identified as 22-year-old Latoya Grier, sped off as Officer C. L Tremaroli was approaching her car.
After a short pursuit, the officer turned off his sirens and blue lights but continued to keep sight of the car and followed it down Ken Knight Drive. That’s where Tremaroli, a five-year veteran with JSO, caught up with the suspect when she pulled her car onto a grass curb. Read more »

 A sex offender recently freed from prison was arrested in the death of a woman abducted while visiting a friend, police said Monday. The friend was shot and seriously wounded.
The body of Mary Ellen Welsh, 62, was found in a wooded area of Bristol, about 10 miles from New Britain, where she was abducted Sunday. She had apparently been shot, New Britain police said. Read more »

A 16-year-old boy has admitted to the murders of 12 people in southern Brazil, according to a police investigator who described a chillingly calm confession.
The teenager, whose identity was not revealed because he is a minor, allegedly told police he killed his victims over the past three months in a fit or rage or out of revenge, and police inspector Enizaldo Jose Plentz said Friday he believes the boy killed some of his victims for enjoyment.
He said police have enough evidence to prove the teenager, an unemployed high school dropout, shot dead at least six of the 12 people he says he killed. Read more »

Mexican Family Values Strikes Again-
PHOENIX - Phoenix police have arrested a suspect wanted in the kidnapping of a teenage girl.
The suspect was identified as Jose Peiro-Rojo, 24, pictured at left.
The Phoenix Police department said they arrested Peiro-Rojo early Saturday morning in California near the U.S./Mexican border. They haven’t released any other details at this time as the investigation is still in progress.
Thirteen-year-old Marquesia Thomas, who suffered bumps and bruises on her head after being hit by her captors, was released early Tuesday morning in a nearby suburb more than seven hours after she was snatched. She suffered no other injuries and was reunited with her family. Read more »

A naked and belligerent Deerfield Beach man, who Broward sheriff’s deputies Tasered when he resisted arrest, died in BSO custody early Friday.
James Garland, 41, was unconscious when he arrived at Imperial Point Hospital in a BSO cruiser some time after 4 a.m., BSO said. He was later pronounced dead.
The Broward County Medical Examiner’s Office conducted an autopsy Friday to determine Garland’s cause of death. BSO has directed the office not to release its findings at this time, said Wendy Crane, a medical investigator. Read more »

The vast majority of Africans have no access to a toilet, according to preliminary data from a World Health Organization report to be published later this year.
The WHO-UNICEF Joint Monitoring Program for Water Supply and Sanitation said the data shows 62 percent of Africans and 2.6 billion people worldwide have no toilet at home “and thus are vulnerable to a range of health risks.”

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WLTX) — Richland County deputies say two middle school teachers who got into a fist-fight in front of students over a personal matter were arrested Wednesday.
Investigators say the original incident happened in the hallway of St. Andrews Middle School between two female eighth-grade teachers on Thursday, March 14.
Sheriff Leon Lott says the school’s resource officer, who works with the Richland County Sheriff’s Department, say the fight happened at 2 p.m. in between classes.
Lott says 30-year-old Tawana Horton of Columbia and 28-year-old Cambrella Pickney of Columbia got into a physical altercation in the hallway, after the teachers “bumped into each other.” Read more »

“Obama will stir the ‘Melting Pot’ into a better ‘Molten America,’” states an endorsement from the New Black Panther Party, or NBPP, which is a registered team member and blogger on Obama’s “MyObama” campaign website.

With gas prices soaring, Still bartered oral sex for gas money with a male acquaintance over the weekend, deputies said.The encounter did not result in a contractual sex act but an aggravated assault when the woman pulled out a pair of scissors and began attacking the man, according to deputies. KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A woman was charged with four counts of first-degree endangering the welfare of a child Thursday after admitting she gave children in her care crack cocaine, police said.Tasha Cole, 17, took her child to the emergency room on Wednesday when the 2-year-old starting having seizures. During routine tests at the hospital, crack cocaine was found in the child’s system, according to court documents.Two other toddlers, Cole’s 2- and 3-year-old niece and nephew, who had been in her care were also tested, and cocaine was also found in their system, police said.Police said Cole told them the children might have found the drugs at a neighbor’s house. ONTARIO - Police arrested a San Bernardino man Wednesday after a teenage girl allegedly saw him masturbating in front of a middle school.
The suspect, 47-year-old Ignacio Chavez Moreno, was booked into West Valley Detention Center on suspicion of indecent exposure, annoying a minor and on a warrant for driving without a license.
